soundoholic
the other day, I was caught listening to a true-crime tv-series. while in the shower. listening.
Hi, my name is siri, and i’m a soundoholic.
for years, I’ve been spotted, laptop in hand, cups or glasses in the other.
results: spilled liquids, broken Macs and a deafening intolerance to silence.
this realization came to me when I attended an online webinar with Jen mcconachie (one of the teachers from the permaculture design course I attended last year) and jona berchner. it was about “wintering”, the concept of learning from what nature does during winter: shedding leaves, hibernating, slowing down. jen mentioned taking walks in the forest, in silence, no music or podcasts playing.
this made me realize, that i haven’t been in nature (or anywhere at all, really) without distractions in my ears for a long time.
for a while now, my sense of creativity has felt lost. My gut is telling me that more time without distractions may lead me on the right track to finding it.
so i’m taking action and setting forth. i’ve cancelled my netflix, hbo, discovery+, skyshowtime. no more binging-while-showering.
let the silence commence.
